A writer, his grandparents were Holocaust survivors and of Polish descent. A graduate of Princeton University, he became famous for his first novel, Everything is Illuminated (2002), the story of a young American Jew who travels to Ukraine to find the woman who saved his grandfather from genocide. His writing career has continued successfully. He has received numerous awards, including the Guardian First Book Prize, the National Jewish Book Award and the New York Public Library Young Lions Prize.
