Archbishop of Kinshasa since 2018 and Vice-President of the Episcopal Conference of the Democratic Republic of Congo, in 2017 he took a leading role in the search for a peaceful solution to the country's ongoing political crisis. He was created a cardinal by Pope Francis in 2019. He is resolutely committed to peace and justice in his country in the face of political violence and difficult electoral transitions.
