Is Chief Priest of Sanzen-in Temple, a Buddhist temple in Kyoto, Japan, established more than 1,200 years ago. After graduating from the Faculty of Buddhist Studies at Taisho University, he was ordained a priest in 1963, later going on to become Chief Priest of Jakko-in Temple in Otsu. He has served as Director of the Hieizan Enryakuji Temple Cemetery, Executive Vice-President of Hieizan Enryakuji Temple, and Director of the Tendai Buddhist Denomination. He was appointed President of Hieizan Enryakuji Temple in 2014 and served in that role through 2020.
