Historian, politician, journalist, essayist, he was one of the architects of the process that led to the fall of Communism and the advent of democracy in Poland. He received renowned international prizes and awards for his contribution to the development of European culture and society. As a journalist, he worked with courage and commitment to the establishment of information liberty in Europe.
