He is one of the international leaders of the Community of Sant'Egidio. Committed to dialogue and unity among Christians, he served as Secretary of the Commission for the New Martyrs wanted by Saint John Paul II for the Great Jubilee of the Year 2000. He is the author of pastoral texts and studies on Christian spirituality. Since September 2010, he has been parish priest of the Roman Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere.
