Prayer for PeaceDialogueEcumenismMonaco of BavariaSpirit of AssisiThe Arab World and freedom, the Arab Spring, the Libyan crisis, the Middle East, are among the main topics to be addressed by many witnesses from different countries during the meeting organized by the Sant'Egidio Community, and by the Archdiocese of Munich from September 11 to 13 in the Bavarian town.
Among the representatives of the Arab world, a prominent figure is that of Mohammed Fahti Baja, Head of Political Affairs of the National Transitional Council of Libya. Intellectual, professor, author of the manifesto that outlines the objectives of the Libyan Revolution, is convinced that new generations in his country will live in a free and democratic country.
His presence renews relations between the National Transitional Council of Libya and the Community of Sant'Egidio began in March, when the Community began to weave a network of contacts, first with the opposition in exile, then with Benghazi. These Contacts led, at the end of last April, the president of the NTC, Mustafa Mohammed Abdul Jalil, to visit Italy, where, after meetings with Italian institutions, he visited the headquarters of the Community in Rome to talk about the future of his country. "We have come to Sant'Egidio to launch to the world the message that we work for peace and that Islam is not the religion of terrorism," Jalil said on that occasion.
