He leads the Badshahi Mosque ('Royal Mosque') in Lahore, the oldest in the Punjab.
He is one of Pakistan's leading Muslim personalities.
He is a firm believer in dialogue and Islamic-Christian friendship for the future of Pakistan.
He was a personal friend of the Catholic minister Shahbaz Batti, who was assassinated during his term in office in March 2011.
He is leader of the 'Pakistan Interfaith Council for Peace and Harmony'.
